Ryan Forensic DNA Consulting has a working relationship with the following groups, agencies and companies.

  • National defender investigator association

    September 17, 2009
Ryan Forensic DNA Consulting provides a DNA training presentation entitled "Forensic DNA Experts - Why do I need one?" at the NDIA West Regional Conference.

The National Defender Investigator Association (NDIA) is the only national organization to represent a constituency dedicated solely to the investigative arm of indigent defense.

The NDIA has maintained its leadership role largely through a dedicated membership and through volunteer efforts. The Board of Directors is comprised of three General Officers and four Area Directors. The General Officers serve a two-year term and are nominated and elected by the entire membership. The Area Directors serve a two-year term and are nominated and elected by the regional membership. General Officers and Area Directors are elected in alternating years. All officers must be full-time Defender investigators. This election process provides the membership with excellent representation and addresses regional interests and concerns as well.

The NDIA has also established itself as one of the premier national training programs in its conduct of its National and Regional training seminars. Some of the foremost authorities in the criminal defense and forensic science fields have taught and lectured for these training vehicles. Many participants have brought this useful information back to their own office’s and shared it with other staff. Many of the information and contacts learned at these seminars have been utilized in the defense of other indigent clients.

The NDIA also has had long established liaisons with the National Legal Aid and Defender Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. The NDIA also maintains close contact and liaisons with a number of other Defender Associations and Defender Investigator Associations across the country and has provided input and leadership toward the establishment of these types of organizations in a number of states.

Many members of the NDIA have taught and lectured for a variety of professional criminal defense organizations across the country as well as a number of colleges and universities. Please review our web site and join us. It will be worth the experience!
  • Virtual Learning and Educational Training Academy

VLETA has been providing online training around the clock, every day of the year, since 2001.

VLETA is an online law enforcement training site providing POST approved training courses on a variety of subjects.  Ryan Forensic DNA Consulting provides DNA-related training topics through VLETA.

  • police policy studies council

Suzanna Ryan of Ryan Forensic DNA Consulting is an instructor in DNA-related materials with the PPSC.  According to their website:

"The Police Policy Studies Council was established in 2001 by former training cadre of Smith & Wesson Academy. We were later joined by a host of staff trainers from other distinguished institutions. All had retained interest in completing ongoing research projects that were viewed as being both compelling and timely. While the central focus of the PPSC staff was the comprehensive study of the police use of deadly force, the PPSC mission has blossomed to encompass a vast array of other compelling criminal justice issues.

Unlike many other training-based entities, PPSC is a research-based, interdisciplinary, training and consultation corporation. Our research has spawned a substantively different vision of how law enforcement personnel should be hired, trained, assigned, and supervised. In fact, we see the training being offered by many other training organizations as being "part of the problem" as opposed to offering any legitimate solutions. Police training must be as court-defensible as it is tactically sound, but the extent to which this focus and balance is being addressed elsewhere is (unfortunately) rare. PPSC training represents a legitimate paradigm shift in thinking, addressing issues seldom (if ever) addressed elsewhere.

PPSC is a diverse group of professionals, brought together by common goals, and a common commitment to excellence. While nearly half of our staff consists of individuals with Ph.D.’s, Medical Degrees, and Master’s degrees, the other half of our staff are seasoned criminal justice trainers and practitioners. We have collectively provided training and consultation to thousands of U.S. law enforcement agencies, and to agencies in over 30 other countries."

  • forensic training network

The Forensic Training Network was started by two former forensic scientists.  According to their website,

"Our goal is to empower and engage forensic professionals and students by implementing useful methods of sharing experience and knowledge.   We are dedicated to providing collaborative training solutions and creating an innovative online resource to connect the forensic community."

Online classes geared toward forensic scientists, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, and defense attorneys are available.  Suzanna Ryan of Ryan Forensic DNA Consulting has provided advice, input, and materials for several of these classes including, "DNA 110 - Essential Aspects of Forensic DNA Testing" which can be found here.
